Maintain Health: It’s All the Little Things That Make a Big Difference Over Time

Medical research studies continue to confirm that maintaining health is far better than fixing health problems once they occur. Antonia Novello, M.D., the former US Surgeon General, summed it up well, saying “It is easier to maintain good health than it is to recover it.”

Medical research clearly shows that sleeping well, eating well, regular daily exercise, drinking adequate clean water, getting exposure to sunlight each day and maintaining nutrients and hormone levels allows better health. Dr. Greg Nobel, a primary care physician at Health First Physicians in Colorado gives three tips to stay healthy: Sleep right, eat more produce and exercise for 30 minutes or more 3-5 times per week.

Maintaining health is much better than waiting for a health problem to occur and trying to treat it.

Recurring behaviors or actions we do each day are what keep us healthy and happy over the long haul. These daily behaviors yield not only our health, but also allow us to better enjoy the pleasures of life as they happen. We do good things when we feel good because we are healthy.

Good health and happiness builds upon itself in a cycle of repeated daily habits we develop over time.

For most people, a decline in hormone levels begins to occur between the ages of 30-40. Hormones are the chemical messengers communicating to all the tissues in your body.

When we, as humans, are in our reproductive “prime” between the ages of 18 to 25, we enjoy optimal hormone levels. In our 20’s, people are typically “at their best” or “in the prime of life.” These are the years when men and women feel great, have lots of energy, easily maintain weight, desire and enjoy sex, sleep great at night and have a sharp clear mind to handle stress or frustrations with ease.
